Firecode™
A better model for passive fire compliance.
A new model for managing passive fire compliance through evidence, lifecycle information and operational knowledge rather than disconnected reports.
Chapter 1
What is Firecode™
Firecode™ is a philosophy for managing passive fire compliance information throughout the life of a building.
It began with a simple observation.
Most passive fire compliance problems are not caused by a lack of inspections. They are caused by fragmented information.
Inspection reports exist in one location. Penetration registers in another. Photographs are stored elsewhere. Product documentation, defect records, rectification evidence and technical correspondence become separated over time until the history of an individual asset is almost impossible to reconstruct.
The consequence is uncertainty.
Building owners commission duplicate investigations. Contractors repeat work that has already been completed. Consultants spend valuable time rediscovering information that once existed. Technical decisions become increasingly dependent upon incomplete records rather than accumulated knowledge.
Firecode™ approaches the problem differently.
Instead of treating documents as the primary record, it treats the asset as the primary record.
Every inspection, photograph, observation, rectification and technical decision contributes to a single continuous history that remains attached to that asset throughout its lifecycle.
The objective is simple.
To preserve knowledge rather than repeatedly recreate it.
One asset.
One history.
Chapter 2
Why It Matters
Buildings never stop changing.
Services are installed. Tenancies are refurbished. Fire stopping is removed and reinstated. Maintenance contractors perform work. Equipment is upgraded. Ownership changes. Documentation becomes fragmented.
Every one of these activities affects passive fire systems, yet the information describing those changes rarely remains connected.
The industry has become highly effective at producing reports.
It has been far less successful at preserving the knowledge contained within those reports.
Firecode™ treats compliance as a continuously evolving body of evidence rather than a sequence of isolated inspections.
That shift fundamentally changes how buildings are understood.
Instead of asking “Where is the latest report?”, Firecode™ encourages a different question:
“What is the complete history of this asset?”
Chapter 3
The Firecode™ Method
Firecode™ is founded on several principles that guide both the consulting practice of Christine Po and the ongoing development of the Firecode™ platform.
- Evidence before opinion.
- One asset. One history.
- Information should outlive individual reports.
- Every conclusion should be traceable.
- Uncertainty should be documented rather than concealed.
- Professional judgement should be preserved, not replaced.
These principles influence every inspection, technical investigation and compliance assessment.
Technology exists to support professional judgement.
It should never replace it.
Chapter 4
From Practice to Platform
Firecode™ did not begin as a software project.
It emerged from years of inspecting passive fire systems across government, healthcare, defence, commercial, industrial and residential buildings.
The same information problems appeared repeatedly regardless of building type.
Evidence became separated.
Registers became outdated.
Historical knowledge disappeared when projects changed hands.
Technical decisions became increasingly difficult because the information required to support them no longer existed in one place.
Firecode™ represents an attempt to solve that problem.
The consulting practice developed the methodology.
The software is simply its implementation.
Chapter 5
Looking Forward
Firecode™ is currently under active development.
The first release focuses on improving the collection, organisation and preservation of passive fire compliance information.
Future development will extend those same principles into broader lifecycle management, technical verification, compliance intelligence and evidence-based decision support.
The ambition is not to create another inspection application.
The ambition is to establish a better information model for passive fire compliance.
